This script randomly displays a quote or similiar message conveying a piece of wisdom or a paradox about life. This demo version uses a bank of 10 "quotes," but a much larger bank is in the full version, which will cost you a dollar. (More about that later.) I have included directions for setting up to enlighten you at startup and at shutdown, but you can double click it anytime you like.
To have your Mac display a sage message at every startup, follow these steps:
1) Open your System (MacOS) Folder.
2) Drag the Quote of the Day script icon to the Startup Items folder.
To have your Mac display a sage message at every shut down, do the following:
1) Open your System (MacOS) Folder.
2) Drag the Quote of the Day script icon to the Shutdown Items folder.
If you want a bit of enlightenment at both startup and shut down, duplicate the script using the Duplicate command in the File menu and put a copy in both places.
Your Mac has now gained the wisdom that you or I would have to sit on a
mountain top for a liketime to get, and is willing to share it all with you.
If your psyche desires even more, however, you can send me $1.00, along with your e-mail address, at the address given at the end of this document. I will then gladly e-mail a copy of the most current Quote of the Day script to you. If you would prefer it by regular mail, you'll have to supply the disk and postage.
If you have any wisdom of your own to share with the world (or a favorite quotation you don't think I've included), send it with your fee and I'll see about including it in the Quote of the Day "mountain of knowledge." Also, the text of these sayings is availible upon request.
This file and this script can be given to anyone you like, anyone you don't
like, and everyone else. Please keep them together, though. If you feel so compelled, you are welcome to upload this anywhere you like, just include this file. If you publish this in some sort of collection, please let me know.
For the technically oriented people out there in cyberspace, this script contains a few tidbits of wisdom and accesses a random number generator to pick one when you run it.
Because fo the random number generator, you may see the same message several times in a row, but there are 10. I promise. The full version you'll get upon purchasing the script contains over 50 bits of wisdom.
